Dear Alumni,

we are writing to you as one-time members of the University of Wuppertal (BUW), because we would like to remain in contact with us and with your former fellow students and colleagues.

\'Alumnus\' (plural \'alumni\') is a Latin word originally meaning \'foster-son\' (or in the feminine form \'alumna, \'foster-daughter\'). Today it\'s used to refer to former school or university students or, in a broader sense, staff members. BUW hat varous alumni networks and publishes an annual Alumni Magazine. Launched in September 2008, Alumni Portal Germany ( is a virtual network for the many people worldwide who have studied or trained in Germany. Supported by German organizations such as InWEnt, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Goethe Institute, as well as by those who financed their own studies in Germany, the trans-organizational Internet portal provides free access to a wide range of offers, events and opportunities of special interest to its target group. In particular, Alumni Portal Germany provides a unique forum for alumni and for German companies and organizations looking for competent employees and partners worldwide.

With many new functions and an attractive, user-friendly design, Alumni Portal Germany has recently been upgraded to extend its range and effectiveness and meet user requirements more closely.

Many thousand people who studied or trained in Germany, from 163 countries, already use the portal, and the number is increasing daily. Alumni Portal Germany stands for ‘competence trained in Germany’.

Cooperation partners

Alumni Portal Germany is a cooperative project initiated by four German international agencies: the Working Group on Migration and Development (AGEF), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Goethe Institute, and the International Training and Development Company InWent, which leads the project. Ten further ‘strategic partners’ currently support the Internet portal, which is financed by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.
