German language courses
BUW’s Language Center offers German language courses tailored to the needs of international doctoral students. The 2-4 hour courses take place on a weekly basis and are free of charge. Participants can acquire general as well as specialist competencies in German. Specialist German courses cover the following areas:
- natural sciences
Courses are offered according to demand on the basis of at least 5 regular participants. Dates and times are flexible and are arranged in consultation with participants. If you are interested, please register with the Language Center: www.sli.uni-wuppertal.de/deutsch/index-en.html
Visiting foreign academics and doctoral students, as well as their family members, may participate in the preparatory courses in German for a maximum of two semesters on payment of a fee (currently 500 Euro per semester). Family members must have university enrollment as informal auditors – Gasthörer. Applications are to be submitted directly to BUW International Office (Ms. Kreimendahl).
Preparatory German courses are offered at the following levels:
- A1 - C1
Placement at a specific level is on the basis of a test held at the beginning of the course. The courses are 40 weeks long with at least 20 hours teaching per week. Vacations follow the school vacation schedule of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
